A former northern Arizona sheriff candidate is facing four felony counts of voter fraud, accused of not being a resident of the county where the race was being held.
The Mohave County Sheriff's office said Michael Hays had been running for the department's sheriff post in 2010 and 2011.
However, an investigation by authorities in neighboring Yavapai County determined Hays was not a resident of Mohave County when he was running for sheriff.
As a result, four felony counts of voter fraud were filed against Hays.
A criminal complaint filed in Kingman, Ariz. Justice Court alleges Hays knowingly provided false information on voter and candidate registration forms in Mohave County.
The criminal complaint list Hays as being "out of custody."
