LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
Las Vegas' appeal as a destination with a "dry heat" may have been put to the test Tuesday. With the temperature topping out at 114 Fahrenheit, tourists were dripping with sweat.
Fortunately for those tourists, fun places to duck out of the oppressive heat are not in short supply. Some spent the day in a pool, others stayed put inside a casino, and a few just chilled out – literally.
"(I) spend more time at the casinos. Definitely more time at the bars," said one tourist.
"I'm from Africa and it's hot there. But I think the past three days … I haven't lived in any kind of condition like this before," added another Vegas visitor.
Tourists navigated the Strip armed with water bottles, hats, umbrellas and anything else they could wrangle up to provide a few degrees of relief.
The temperature on the sidewalk came in around 150 degrees.
"I can feel the heat burning my legs off the cement," said one tourist.
As people quickly discovered Tuesday, it's always a comfortable 70 degrees in the casinos.
The temperature is even cooler at the Minus 5 bar inside the Monte Carlo. The room temperature is kept at 23 degrees, or minus 5 Celsius.
Construction on some Strip projects is taking place in the early morning hours these days. The SkyVue project across from Mandalay Bay has workers starting at 5 a.m.
