LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Officers are seeking a man who tried to sexually abuse two small children at an east Las Vegas apartment.

Las Vegas Metro police said detectives investigated reports of a suspect who had lured a 3-year-old and 6-year-old in the area of Tropicana Avenue and Maryland Parkway on June 20.

In the reported encounter, the man led the children to an apartment, exposed himself and touched one of the children.

The man fled when a parent confronted him, and police believe that someone in the area knows where he is.

"It's obviously a concern that this incident took place and that this person is not in custody," said Officer Laura Meltzer, a spokesperson with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

Detectives described the "person of interest" as a black man, 20 to 25 years old, 5'7" with a slender build, who goes by the name "Deandre."

"If I saw him with anybody's kids - anybody try to lure anybody's kids, I'm going to say something," said John Thomas, who lives nearby.

Police urge anyone with information on the man to contact Metro's Sexual Assault Section at 702-828-3421 or Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.

"He needs to be put away and not let out," said nearby resident Linda Ebel. "And let him stay where he belongs - behind bars."
