LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority will wait until further information is collected regarding changing the name of McCarran International Airport.
The authority's Board of Directors - which includes community leaders such as Las Vegas Councilman Steve Ross, North Las Vegas Mayor Sherri Buck and Clark County Commission Tom Collins - heard arguments Tuesday for and against the rename during a meeting.
Steve Ross first hinted at a possible name change in June. Ross suggested that "Las Vegas International" would make the city more recognizable to foreign travelers.
The airport, named after Nevada Sen. Pat McCarran, is owned and operated by Clark County.
Clark County Department of Aviation spokesperson Chris Jones noted any name change would be up to the county's Board of Commissioners.
The LVCVA said a study that would include a cost analysis and benefit assessment of the change would be needed before any further action is made.
