LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
A Beretta store and gun range might have to jump more hurdles before it can open at the Shoppes at Palazzo on the Strip.
Representatives with the Venetian Resort have filed an appeal to a decision made by the Clark County Planning Commission to approve a gun use permit at that location.
Now the issue will go before the board of county commissioners.
Commissioner Steve Sisolak told FOX5 he is on the fence with this issue.
"Now when I'm hearing that Metro has a conceivable problem, the hotel security staff all have problem with this, that raises a lot of eyebrows," Sisolak said.
Greg Borgel, a planing consultant for the Italian gun maker, said Beretta hopes to resolve the issue before it goes before the commission August 8.
"(What we) always intended to do was go ahead and meet with the two neighbors who expressed a concern, in a belief that their concerns can be answered pretty convincingly," Borgel told FOX5.
Many of those concerns were brought up by Venetian executives during last week's hearing before the planning commission.
"Our worst fear is that the wrong person takes a gun and uses the casino floor as the firing range," Fred Kraus, Venetian general council, testified before the planning commission on July 3.
While Borgel understands the casinos' security concerns, he said the store will not sell ammunition.
"We just don't see a security issue (in) handing someone a packaged firearm with no ammunition," Borgel said.
