NORTH LAS VEGAS, NV (FOX5) -
Facing pay freezes and downsizing, the beleaguered North Las Vegas Police Department will receive a $1,750,000 grant, Nevada Sen. Harry Reid announced Monday.
The grant, from the United States Department of Justice's Office of Community Oriented Policing Services, is intended to help the department create or preserve up to 14 jobs, said Reid.
"This grant gives the North Las Vegas Police Department a shot in the arm," said Reid. "CHP funds will create jobs and improve public safety in North Las Vegas, and I am pleased that Nevadans living in the community will be better protected by a strong law enforcement agency."
The grant is part of the COPS Hiring Program, which is aimed at helping police departments increase community policing capacity and crime prevention efforts.
