BOULDER CITY, NV (FOX5) -
Southern Nevada law enforcement agencies are on full alert as members of the notorious biker club the Mongols gather for a weekend event in Boulder City.
Hundreds of Mongols from around the world have rolled into town, making many residents nervous. However, some business owners are optimistic the bikers will provide an economic boost, free of problems.
Boulder City Police Chief Thomas Finn said there are frequently problems with this motorcycle club and his officers aren't taking any chances.
"We are well prepared. They have a reputation for having trouble follow them wherever they go," Finn said. "If it happens to occur here in Boulder City, we'll be ready."
"It's not a gang, it's a motorcycle club," Stephen Stubbs, an attorney for the Mongols, said. "They are not a criminal organization. They are brothers and have camaraderie and they like to come together as a club. I don't expect any problems. I understand people have concerns and I can appreciate that, but this event is really like a family reunion."
The Hells Angels clashed with the Mongols in a deadly battle in Laughlin at the River Run in 2002. It just so happens that the Hells Angels are having a party in Las Vegas this weekend.
The clubs have reportedly agreed to steer clear of each other this weekend.
