Support for bus monitor nice, but doesn’t solve problem

Every couple of minutes I've been refreshing Indiegogo's website to see how much money has been pledged for Karen Klein vacation.

Did I say vacation? Let's just call it a well-deserved early retirement.

Click… $171,865. Click… $172,414. Click… $173,908. Click… $180,818.

Klein is the Greece Central School District bus monitor who was relentlessly tormented by a group of despicable middle school students during a bus ride on Monday.

Video of the incident, titled "Making the Bus Monitor Cry," was uploaded to YouTube a day later. By Thursday morning, it had been viewed more than 1,000,000 times and Klein was a household name.

In a segment on NBC's "Today Show," host Matt Lauer called the students "narrow-minded monsters" and said their parents should be ashamed of them.

Yeah, I'd have to agree with that.

As often happens with these stories, the narrative shifts quickly from the horror of the video to the blame game.

One common thread is that parents are being urged to sit down with their kids and show them the video, so they can "talk" about bullying and why it's wrong.

It might also be a good time to make some threats. Just sayin.

When I was a student at Greece Athena Middle School, a teacher caught me swearing in the hallway one day and dragged me to an office where he called my parents.

I'll be honest, I cried like a baby. I thought I was going to get kicked out of school and couldn't even begin to imagine how badly I was going to be punished when I got home.

It wasn't the last time I screwed up, but it's one I remember.

My point is that maybe those kids need to be reminded who's in charge. Maybe they need a little fear put in them?

It's only a suggestion, worked for me.

Tell me what you think. Send your comments to Facebook and The RANT. We'll use your responses on FOX5 News at 10.
