Oscar Goodman recalls days as mob attorney, mayor

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

You could call him living history. On Tuesday, former Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman recalled his days as an attorney for the mob and mayor before a riveted crowd at the Mob Museum.

No talk about Goodman's history in Las Vegas would be complete without recalling his appearance as himself in director Martin Scorsese's Casino.

"Scorsese says do it the way you would in real life, so when you see Casino next time, and every time you watch that, I make 13 cents - which is excellent," Goodman said.

Goodman loved being in the courtroom as much as being on the silver screen.

"I had my first federal case here. I could try it 1,000 times and I'd lose it 999. I won it, and it was from that case my whole career started," he said.

Goodman said his life has been characterized by a balance of hard work and hard play.

"The bottom line is I had the best life and then I had the best 12 years that anybody could have, being the greatest mayor of the greatest city in the world, Las Vegas," he said. "Now I have the privilege of sleeping with the mayor (Carolyn Goodman), which is even better!"

Goodman will give another speech at the Mob Museum on Saturday from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. Admission for locals is $10. Seating is first come, first served.
