NORTH LAS VEGAS, NV (FOX5) -
A North Las Vegas man who was critically injured after being struck by a car while in a crosswalk this past February has died, police announced Tuesday.
North Las Vegas police said Andras Toth, 78, succumbed to his injuries on June 2 after more than three months in the hospital.
Toth was struck while crossing Las Vegas Boulevard North at Tonopah Drive on February 28.
According to police, Toth was walking in a crosswalk on a green light but was moving slowly. He had walked 90 percent of the way before a Toyota Tercel driven by an 82-year-old man struck Toth. Police said the car was passing on a green light, but Nevada law states drivers must allow pedestrians to reach the sidewalk if the "walk" signal changes to "don't walk."
Toth was transported to University Medical Center and later to a rehabilitation center at Valley Hospital.
Police said investigators believe the driver was at fault and may have been under the influence of drugs at the time.
Charges against the driver are expected.
Toth represented the fifth traffic-related fatality in North Las Vegas.
