Toddler who drowned at Lake Mead identified

Posted: Updated:

The Clark County Coroner's office released the name of a toddler who drowned at Lake Mead last Friday.

Divers recovered the lifeless body of one-year-old Jacob Carter of Henderson after he had gone missing in the Las Vegas Boat Harbor.

National Park Service said harbor employees jointed in the search for the little boy.

"We had about 20 or more people out on the dock looking for the child," said harbor owner Bob Gripentog. "(We) stopped people going on and off the dock because we didn't know what we were dealing with."

The boy may have fell off a houseboat, NPS rangers said.

Authorities did not immediately say exactly how the child fell.

Las Vegas Metro police is expected to assist in the investigation.

This was the first fatality at Lake Mead National Recreation Area this year, NPS said.
