A toddler died Friday after reportedly drowning in the Las Vegas Boat Harbor at Lake Mead.
According to rangers with the National Park Service, a missing toddler at the harbor was reported at 11:15 a.m.
"Well I can tell you I'm getting goose pimples just talking to you about it," said Cindy McClure who helped search for the boy. "It was horrible, everyone was running, yelling for Jacob."
Employees at the harbor assisted in the search as well.
"We had about 20 or more people out on the dock looking for the child," said harbor owner Bob Gripentog. "(We) stopped people going on and off the dock because we didn't know what we were dealing with."
The U.S. National Park Service said the boy fell off a houseboat.
It wasn't until noon divers found the boy near the boat - he did not survive.
"When it is a young child like this it's emotional, and it's not something that we deal with every day," said park ranger Christopher Raynolds.
Raynolds could not give specific details on where the boy's family members were when he fell into the water, but apparently he escaped the eyes of supervision, McClure said.
"He was just gone, nobody knew why or how," she said.
"We always recommend that you should have your kids wearing life jackets even if you're on shore because kids will wander in the water," Raynolds said.
The Clark County Coroner's Office is expected to release the child's name and the exact cause of death.
Metro police will assist in the investigation.
The National Park Service said this was the first fatality at Lake Mead National Recreation Area this year.
