A woman arrested late last year in the slaying of her boyfriend was given a suspended sentence of up to four years in prison and four years of probation.

Chamel Smith, 29, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in connection to the Dec. 27, 2011 death of her boyfriend.

According to Las Vegas Metro police, neighbors at an apartment complex near Swenson Street and Twain Avenue heard screaming coming from an apartment.

Emergency personnel arrived originally on a call of a possible overdose but called Metro police to accompany them.

Police would later find Smith's boyfriend stabbed. The victim was taken to Sunrise Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Smith was charged with murder with a deadly weapon but took a plea deal for involuntary manslaughter.

Smith was sentenced on Tuesday to a suspended prison term of more than a year and seven months but no more than four years in prison. She was also given four years probations and community service.
