LAS VEGAS (AP) -
Two retirement ceremonies are making sure American flags are properly disposed of this Flag Day.
The Palm Northwest Mortuary teamed up with Boy Scouts of America Troop 555 and cadets from the Civil Air Patrol to host a special ceremony Thursday morning.
"The ceremony is designed not just to retire old flags, but to honor with dignity and respect the symbol of our nation's courage and strength," says Palm Northwest general manager Kelly Browder.
The proper way to dispose of a worn, soiled or faded flag is to burn it and bury the ashes.
The metal rings from the flag are considered good luck.
These will be presented to the American Legion on Veteran's Day.
You can drop off old flags at any Palm Mortuary location.
The American Legion Post 149 is hosting another flag retirement ceremony with Chapman Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram Dealership.
This is Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Chapman Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram Value Center on Boulder Highway south of Sahara Avenue.
Chapman dealerships are also collecting worn flags for proper disposal.
