Kathleen Vermillion (FOX5 file)
LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
Former Henderson City Councilwoman Kathleen Vermillion has filed a lawsuit against the nonprofit she herself founded.
Vermillion is suing Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth for defamation of character after a claim was brought against her accusing her of misappropriation of funds.
Vermillion parted ways with the nonprofit, for which she once served as chief operating officer, back in January.
During the period when Vermillion severed her ties with Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth, she was also embroiled in a public conflict with ex-boyfriend and current Clark County Commissioner Steve Sisolak.
In response to the lawsuit, the Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth Wednesday afternoon provided FOX5 with the following statement:
We have not had the opportunity to read the complaint and would not specifically comment without doing so, however, we are confident that the facts of this case will provide the truth and that our forensic audits by independent auditors will enhance our position even more.
Sadly, this may be nothing more than a desperate attempt to vilify an entire board of volunteers and leadership team that have given tirelessly and lovingly to a worthwhile endeavor that has helped thousands of young men and women find assistance in their desperate times of need.
Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth, its board and director are focused on fulfilling its mission and are proud that we are successfully serving more youth than ever and service delivery has gone uninterrupted.
