Voters in Laughlin have said no to a plan to make the resort town a city of its own.
Incorporation was defeated by more than 200 votes. Had it been approved, Laughlin would have installed its own city government rather than rely on Clark County for services.
Some of Laughlin's roughly 7,000 residents thought they were paying too much in taxes for services such as the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's coverage of the town.
Had Laughlin become a city, it would have had to stand on its own financially or risk being taken over by the state.
