LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
Firefighters and safety experts are in the midst of a four-day expo in Las Vegas this week to learn ways to prevent fires from happening.
The National Fire Protection Association Conference and Expo is slated to hold 135 learning sessions and 19 seminars that highlight fire safety concerning home, business and national landmarks.
A keynote session will examine leadership in the Fire Department of New York before and after the September 11 attacks.
"The NFPA Conference & Expo is the year's must-attend education event in the fire and life safety industry," says James Shannon, president of NFPA. "Attendees gain knowledge and application skills that give them a competitive edge in their field while staying up-to-date on the most current fire and life safety standards."
In addition, the association's mascot Sparky the Fire Dog is expected to promote Fire Prevention Week geared at educating children about the dangers and prevention of fire.
Sparky, who appeared on FOX5 Tuesday, talked about the theme of this year's week, "Have to Ways Out!"
Fire Prevention Week is scheduled for October 7-13.
The conference is happening at Mandalay Bay.
