LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Mail order pharmacy company Medco/Express Scripts announced Friday it was laying off 133 workers in Nevada.

The company said the move was based on operational efficiencies.

"As part of regular business practice, we continually assess our operational needs to ensure we are as efficient as possible," a company representative told FOX5. "With many of our clients based in the East and Midwest, we must shift work to nearby facilities with lower postage costs in order to serve our clients and patients in the most effective and efficient way possible."

The company employs 1,400 people in Nevada. About 35,000 workers are employed for the company in the United States.
