LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
NV Energy is offering southern Nevada customers a $50 rebate to take a second refrigerator off their hands.
In a summer program, the utility company will provide free pickup of the secondary units and recycle them.
The company cites a waste of power for the fridges as reason for customers to dump them.
According to NV Energy, refrigerators in hot garages work up to four times more than newer, energy-efficient models to maintain their temperature. NV Energy estimates a saving of $140 a year on bills by getting rid of a secondary unit.
For more information on the program and to arrange a pick-up, visit NVEnergy.com/Refrigerator or call 1-877-289-8260.
NV Energy noted participants must own the unit. The offer is limited to two units for each residence.
