LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

A 19-year-old Las Vegas man said he considered crossing a street to avoid a fight with his mother's former husband, but instead chose to confront the man and ultimately shot him to death.

That's according to an arrest report for Tyten Kaehu-Scanlan, who faces a murder charge in connection with Wednesday's killing of 44-year-old Blackie Pele on Windmill Parkway near La Serna Street.

Police said Pele had come to Kaehu's home to pick up his siblings for an elementary school graduation ceremony that morning.

According to the arrest report, Kaehu was walking to a nearby convenience store when he saw Pele, who threatened to beat him up.

Kaehu decided to confront Pele and shot him in the stomach and twice in the head, police said.

According to the report, Kaehu "said he was not going to lie and said ‘I did it.'"

Pele was also shot twice in the head, police said.

The boy's mother, Rebecca Scanlan, and one of his sisters both said they saw Kaehu after the shooting and told police he threatened to shoot himself.

The sister also admitted she hid the gun in the backyard of the house, according to the report. A gun was later recovered during the investigation.
