LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
The summer heat is on and Las Vegas Metro police are inviting local kids to chill out on them. The catch is you have to be "caught" doing a good deed.
Each year Metro partners with 7-Eleven for "Operation Chill," a program that rewards kids for positive behavior.
Patrol officers who spot kids in the act of doing good will "ticket" them with a coupon good for a 7-Eleven Slurpee. "Offenses" include helping those in need, deterring crime or participating in positive community activities.
Police say kids have a lot of time on their hands during summer vacation which can lead to trouble.
Since the program's inception in 1995, more than 12 million "Operation Chill" coupons have been handed out by police all across the nation.
