Police, ticket holders prepare for Electric Daisy Carnival

Posted: Updated:

As crews get the rides up at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the Electric Daisy Carnival, many ticket holders are shopping for outfits.

Megan Lovering and Katie Graul, both going to EDC, are preparing by shopping at Vavoom Girly Boutique on Paradise.

"Like trying to put outfits together that I already have, buying new stuff. I have to find a third outfit still," Lovering told FOX5.

"I'm trying to be frugal, I'm trying to space it out a little bit, but (I'm spending) a couple hundred probably, just like here and there on everything," Graul told FOX5.

Vavoom says its sales numbers double the week before EDC, with decorative bras, tutus and fuzzy boots all being big sellers.

Meanwhile, Metro police are also preparing for EDC.

Monday, the department released video of last year's preparation.

"My staff does a very good job, we put in hundreds of hours on this event," said Lt. Jason Letkiewicz, who works with LVMPD Special Events Section.

According to Metro, in all there were 61 misdemeanor and felony arrests in 2011 out of about 240,000 people who attended.

Lovering and Graul say that low number of arrests is not surprising to them.

They believe EDC just has a bad reputation.

"Everyone is going to be in a good mood, and it's going to be a good energy, I can tell," Graul said.

"It's for dancing, music, hanging out with your friends and just having a good time," said Lovering.

Part of that bad reputation comes from a 2010 incident when EDC was held in Los Angeles. That's when 15-year-old Sasha Rodriguez died of an ecstasy overdose.

Her family sued organizer Insomniac and the LA Coliseum for damages.

Lawyers told the LA Times the family is getting a $190,000 settlement in which the organizers do not admit any wrongdoing.
