LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
Clark County School District said Monday it expects about 15,000 of its students to graduate this month, which includes those seniors who were helped this school year by what it calls "targeted intervention and increased outreach."
CCSD announced the projected graduation numbers for the class of 2012 Monday as a display of the district's efforts to increase graduation rates and help those who are at risk of missing out of commencement.
The estimate amounts to 65 percent of all high school seniors graduating. At the beginning of the year, CCSD said 52 percent of seniors were on track to graduate.
The number also amounted to a six percent increase in graduates from the year before.
Superintendent Dwight D. Jones also noted about 2,000 more seniors will be given the opportunity to take courses or pass the Nevada High School Proficiency Exam during the summer as part of an effort to get them graduated for an unprecedented August commencement.
"We are seeing more graduates today than last year's June graduation and summer school graduates combined with many more poised to graduate in August, which is reason to celebrate our gains and refocus on the work that lies ahead," Jones said.
CCSD said the increased rates were the result of its effort to identify students who were in danger of not graduating and helping them pass the required exit exams or classes.
