LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
There's been a change of command for the largest Nevada Army National Guard unit.
Lt. Col. Kurt Neddenriep is the outgoing commander of the Wildhorse Squadron.
He became the leader in 2010 after a successful year-long security mission in Afghanistan.
"The last 23 years have been great. The folks that I've worked with really helped me to get where I am. I can't thank them enough," Neddenriep said.
Lt. Col. Michael Glynn was the guard's state training officer. He also served with the squadron in Afghanistan. Sunday, he became their new commander.
"I'm very honored, very humbled, to be given this command. It does have a very good reputation and a storied history. I'm very proud to be offered this opportunity," Glynn said.
With their new leader, the squadron's duties may expand, preparing them for any situation at home or abroad.
Neddenriep called the day bittersweet. He's set to retire in February after 23 years in the National Guard. He will still work his civilian job as a financial advisor.
