LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
Boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. surrendered to authorities on Friday and began serving an 87-day sentence in connection with a domestic violence case.
Dressed in a gray Nike sweat suit and sporting a goatee, Mayweather was handcuffed in front of a packed courtroom of friends, fans and journalists just after 11 a.m.
Mayweather, 35, is expected to be separated from other inmates at the Clark County Detention Center during his incarceration.
The boxer was arrested in September 2010 after police said he punched his ex-girlfriend at his home. Mayweather pleaded guilty to a charge of battery domestic violence.
His jail sentence was delayed earlier this year so he could take part in a May 5 fight against Miguel Cotto at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
