NORTH LAS VEGAS, NV (FOX5) -
There is less than 24 hours until the city of North Las Vegas must submit a budget to the state and still city leaders are at odds with the unions over a $33 million deficit.
According to a release received by FOX5 Thursday, City Manager Tim Hacker believes time remains for an agreement to be reached.
"Concessions can be made today that can balance the budget or else we will pursue emergency authority from the City Council," Hacker said.
The emergency authority Hacker mentioned involves a declaration of disaster which would grant the city the emergency power to sidestep union contracts and force budget concessions.
Union reps have promised to sue the city if that course of action is taken.
North Las Vegas Firefighters President Captain Jeff Hurley fired back at the city Thursday, claiming concessions have been made and the union remains at the bargaining table.
"Contrary to what the North Las Vegas mayor and city manager are reporting, we have never walked away from the table and continue to negotiate," Hurley said in reference to a meeting scheduled for Wednesday that fell apart.
Today at 10 a.m., we return to the table to ask why the city continues with their constant delays. City officials are misleading state officials, members of the media and the citizens of North Las Vegas."
Firefighters will meet with city leaders Thursday in a last-ditch effort to work something out ahead of the deadline.
FOX5 will cover the meeting and provide reaction from the city manager and union reps beginning at 5.
