LAS VEGAS (AP) -
His armed robbery spree back in August of 2010 included nine businesses over a three-day period. Today, Jason Wiley, 28, was sentenced to 237 years in prison.
Wiley was convicted by a jury last November. A co-defendant, Christopher DiBlasio, pleaded guilty prior to trial. A third co-conspirator, Wiley's stepson Lamont Curry, was prosecuted in state court.
"This successful prosecution was part of our expanded Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) program which focuses on serial robberies and other armed robbery offenses," said U.S. Attorney Bogden. "This prosecution should serve as a warning to anyone contemplating the use of a firearm in a robbery or other violent offense. Robberies are inherently violent crimes - so introducing a gun into a robbery only magnifies the danger of citizens being harmed."
Wiley robbed three businesses and served as a getaway driver in the other robberies. The government contended he robbed the first few establishments to show his young accomplices, 18 and 17, "how it's done."
Wiley also provided his accomplices with guns and disguises, rented the getaway car, picked out targets and did the driving.
Businesses hit include a Snackers convenience store, Roberto's Taco Shop, Pit Stop, Circle K, Korner Store and Deli, Emerald Suites Hotel, Speedee Mart, Brando's, Terrible Herbst, and Dotty's.
Wiley was sentenced to five years in prison for robbery, seven years for the first firearm charge, and 25 years consecutive for additional firearm charges.
