Metro officer arrested for lewdness with minor

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Metro police Tuesday afternoon announced they have arrested one of their own.

Metro's Juvenile Sexual Abuse Detail arrested 43-year-old Officer Garrett Vandereecken at around 3 p.m. Tuesday. He is charged with one count of lewdness with a minor under 14, which is a felony crime.

Vandereecken voluntarily surrendered at the Clark County Detention Center. He remains in custody.

Police say Vandereecken has been relieved of duty without pay pending the outcome of criminal charges and an internal investigation.

Vandereecken has been with Metro for four years. He was assigned to the Northwest Area Command.
