LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
As both high school and college graduations take place around Southern Nevada, the state is promoting that it has more than 1,500 full-time jobs waiting.
That's music to the ears of the more than 2,300 students who graduated from the College of Southern Nevada on Monday evening.
"I think there's still a big concern with the lack of jobs," said CSN graduate Katherine Richards. "Las Vegas was hard-hit with the recession and is still gloom-and-doom, but there's hope."
From NHP troopers to highway maintenance workers, the state says they want to fill jobs fast and are waiting for the right applicants.
"We have entry-level positions, we have positions where a college degree is not required and then we have high level positions all the way to medical professionals," said Jeff Mohlenkamp, Budget Director for Nevada's Human Resources Management Division.
The news came as a surprise to the state's newest job seekers.
"I thought there was a job freeze, because the last thing I heard was that they were freezing hiring for the government because of the budget issues and all that," said CSN graduate Brianna McNamara "Wherever I find a future, that's where I want to go. But I'd like to stay in Vegas."
On top of those 1,500 jobs, there are also another 1,000 jobs that are part-time or seasonal to be filled.
