UNLV Runnin' Rebels sophomore guard Reggie Smith is leaving the program to be closer to his Chicago home, head coach Dave Rice announced Monday.
Smith transferred to UNLV from Marquette in the Fall 2010 semester, sitting out that semester as well as the Spring 2011 semester. He became eligible to play in December of 2011, appearing in 20 games. He averaged 2.5 points per game.
"I enjoyed my time at UNLV," Smith said. "However, my grandmother is really sick and I have decided to find a school closer to home so I can be near her and my family."
"I appreciate the time Reggie spent in our program," Rice said. "I understand him wanting to be closer to home and wish him and his family the best."
