Woman's family suing after Virgin River drowning

Posted: Updated:
MESQUITE, NV (FOX5) -

Just days after a 3-year-old drowned in the Virgin River, the family of a woman who died in a similar fashion announced the filing of a lawsuit against the company responsible for an irrigation canal there.

According to the family's Las Vegas-based attorneys, the daughter of Joanna Hensley is filing a wrongful death lawsuit against the Bunkerville Irrigation Company, claiming no signs were properly posted warning of the canal's dangerous conditions.

Hensley died during a recreational outing two years ago at the canal outside of Mesquite, which is located 50 miles northeast of Las Vegas.

The attorneys said Hensley was on a flotation device when she was sucked into the irrigation gate.

The announcement comes after Sherlyn Martin-Alverez was sucked into the Virgin River after playing with two other children at an irrigation ditch on Monday.

Stay tuned to FOX5 for the latest on this developing story.
