Free fitness camps for kids

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

With obesity rates on the rise in both adults and kids in the United States, FOX5 wanted to focus on the journey one Las Vegas family is taking to get healthy.

The Ramseys have committed to a 12-week fitness and nutrition makeover. They are sharing their success and their stumbling points with FOX5 as a way to motivate others.

As they round out Week 3, they are learning that fitness can be fun.  The youngest member of the family, 8-year-old Teague, likes playing video games but is learning that being active can be fun.  He recently spent a Saturday morning with his mother, Olga, at the Jump 4 Joy Foundation's "Rebels Fighting Obesity" camp.

The community program puts on free fitness camps for kids ages 6-17 every month. It's one-stop shopping for kids and parents to learn about nutrition, fun fitness, and adopting a healthy lifestyle.  The atmosphere is fun, engaging and designed to get the children excited about fitness.

The Jump 4 Joy Foundation is integral in the Ramseys road to good health.  And they are already seeing the benefits.

The family has cleared out all of the junk food from their home and are eating a steady diet of lean proteins and fresh fruits and vegetables.

Collectively they have already lost more than 30 pounds in just three weeks.
