LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
A motorcyclist was run over and killed Wednesday afternoon and police have located a possible suspect vehicle.
The northbound lanes of Boulder Highway near Harmon Avenue were shut down after an accident Wednesday afternoon.
Las Vegas Metro police reported the accident at 2:50 p.m. in front of the Sam's Town Casino.
It's believed the motorcyclist, a 71-year-old man who was riding a 2001 Harley Davidson, was stopped at a traffic light and somehow fell off his bike. He was then run over by what witnesses described as a landscaping vehicle.
"The motorcycle looks like it tipped over and (the victim) fell into the lane," said Metro Sgt. Richard Strader. "The dump truck, or other vehicle, ran over him, killing him instantly."
Police cannot confirm why the man may have fallen off his motorcycle.
A witness at the scene told FOX5 the driver of the landscaping vehicle exited his truck but left the scene when he heard emergency vehicles arriving.
"He saw the cops drive up and he drove away," said Jennifer Webb. "You just ended somebody's life, why would you drive away from that?"
After a plea to the public, a man called police claiming he may have run over the victim. Metro has the man's vehicle in custody and the investigation is ongoing.
The accident is located near where a pedestrian was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver late Tuesday night.
