NORTH LAS VEGAS, NV (FOX5) -
North Las Vegas is asking residents to share their concerns about man-made and natural disaster possibilities in the area.
The city's Office of Emergency Management has joined a regional effort to review local risks posed by disasters and find ways to reduce damage from those risks.
As part of the project, residents are encouraged to voice any worries regarding natural and human-caused hazards by answering an online hazard mitigation questionnaire.
Information from the questionnaire will be included in Clark County's 2012 Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan.
Each city is required to have a hazard mitigation plan to be eligible to receive certain types of federal disaster assistance under the Federal Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000.
Thus, North Las Vegas is updating its own plan.
During the past 10 years, Clark County has received seven presidential disaster declarations following fires, flooding and severe winter storms.
The hazard mitigation plan provides the county and participating cities with essential tools to prioritize future actions for reducing the damage from such disasters.
