LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
Las Vegas Metro police said they arrested a driver who may been driving under the influence of alcohol when he fatally struck a jaywalker and fled from the scene late Tuesday night.
According to Sgt. Richard Strader, a man was crossing Nellis Boulevard, just north of Flamingo Road, outside of a marked crosswalk before 11 p.m. when he was hit by a blue Nissan Altima.
The driver fled the scene of the accident, officers said, and the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police were able to catch up with the driver, Tomas Del-Angel, 59, sometime early Wednesday morning.
Del-Angel was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. Sgt. Strader believed alcohol was involved.
As of this incident, Metro has investigated 52 traffic-related fatalities this year.
