A Cowpens man was accused of abusing 911 by making several calls pretending to be his female neighbor, deputies said.
Spartanburg County deputies said the first 911 call came in at 12:23 a.m. Tuesday, when the caller claimed to be a woman who had gotten into an argument with her husband.
Deputies said the caller sounded like a man trying to disguise his voice, saying "she" was scared and was hiding. Dispatchers said they could hear several small dogs in the background of the call.
When asked, the caller could not provide the address where the disturbance was taking place but said the house was located on Parris Drive, deputies said.
Fifteen minutes later, dispatchers received another call from the same person, who said police needed to hurry because "she" was hiding from "her" husband in the woods outside, deputies said.
Deputies responded to the Parris Drive address the caller gave, but when they arrived at the home, the couple identified by the caller was asleep. Deputies said the couple did not claim to make any 911 calls, and they had a dog but it was not small like the one heard on the 911 calls.
While talking to the alleged callers, deputies said the man called 911 again to tell them they were at the wrong house.
Deputies said they received a fourth call while at the Parris Drive home from the same caller, and when they told him they were at the scene, he hung up.
At 1:11 a.m., the man called 911 a fifth time saying "she" was being held at knife-point by "her" husband, deputies said.
The number was traced back to another home on Parris Drive where deputies said they identified 24-year-old Bobby Bridges as the caller.
While at Bridges' home, deputies said there were several small dogs running around inside that matched the sounds heard on the 911 calls.
Deputies said they were overwhelmed by the odor of dog urine and feces at Bridges' home, including on the living room floor, as well as cockroaches crawling all over the floors and walls.
While interviewing Bridges and playing back the 911 calls to him, deputies said he admitted to making them because he and his wife had a dispute with his neighbors - who he claimed to be in on the calls.
Bridges was arrested and charged with for making false reports to 911. He was released Tuesday afternoon on a $2,500 bond.
