LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Las Vegas Metro police launched an investigation into an alleged pay-for-sex operation after a customer was stabbed in the head and stomach.

According to detectives, the incident happened just before 6 a.m. Sunday at Red Devil Fitness and Spa near Spring Mountain Road and Polaris Avenue.

Metro told FOX5 the business is licensed with Clark County but is actually a front for a pay-for-sex operation called a "clip joint." Police explained that these places are known to lead customers into believing they are places of prostitution, only to later be kicked out once money has been exchanged before any services are given.

In the incident, a European tourist got into an altercation with a male employee about pricing and was then stabbed in the head and stomach, detectives said.

Five women and a man were arrested, but police believed the stabbing suspect fled.

The victim was transported to University Medical Center with critical injuries.
