LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
A Las Vegas man went above and beyond to scam people into thinking he was a police officer, according to metro police, even going so far as to rig his sport utility vehicle with red and blue lights.
Ryan Patrick Johns, 32, is accused of impersonating an officer on two occasions within the last 14 months in the area of Sahara Avenue and Town Center Drive on the valley's west side.
In each case, Johns attempted to pull over female motorists, police said.
Johns was arrested May 7 after detectives were told of an unusual vehicle that had been impounded by a local towing company.
The vehicle, a dark gray 2008 GMC Yukon, was rigged with emergency lights, and also contained a handgun, handcuffs and a fake police badge, police said.
Johns was taken into custody on an outstanding warrant for having an open container in a vehicle.
Authorities are investigating whether Johns may have attempted to pull over other drivers in his Yukon, which carried the Nevada license plate No. 737WTN.
Anyone with information about the case is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
