Haze over Las Vegas starts to move out

Posted: Updated:
LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

An air quality alert was issued Thursday as elevated levels of smoke and dust persisted over Las Vegas. That haze began to dissipate as the evening went on.

The Clark County Department of Air Quality reported unhealthful levels of dust and smoke in Boulder City and the Las Vegas Valley. Officials urged children, seniors and people with breathing problems to stay indoors.

Officials said they do not know the exact cause of the elevated levels of haze. They listed wildfire smoke and dust storms from Arizona as possible sources.

Officials said it will continue to monitor conditions and update the latest on the DAQEM forecast page: http://redrock.clarkcountynv.gov/forecast/.

Officials said under extremely unhealthful air quality conditions, people exposed may experience coughing, wheezing and shortness of breath.

Stay tuned to FOX5 for the latest on this developing story.
