Inmates escape custody near downtown Las Vegas

The Nevada Division of Forestry reported that two inmates escaped custody near downtown Las Vegas on Wednesday.

Officials said the inmates, identified as Jonathan Jackson and Spike Brown, were doing work for the agency and were passengers in a van carrying multiple inmates on U.S. 95 near the Interstate 15 interchange.

The van pulled off to the side of the roadway and the inmates fled, according to Division of Forestry.

Jackson was described as a 29-year-old African-American with black hair and brown eyes. He stands about 5'9" and weighs about 240 lbs, officials said. Jackson is serving a 24 to 60 month sentence for conspiracy to commit a violent crime with a concurrent sentence for grand larceny.

Brown is also African-American with black hair and brown eyes. He is 32 years old, about 5'9" with black hair and brown eyes and weighs about 170 lbs. Brown is serving a 48 to 120 month sentence for possession of stolen property and a consecutive sentence for being an ex-felon in possession of a firearm.

Both are wearing blue tops and bottoms, authorities said.
