UNLV to honor hiker who died at Red Rock Canyon

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

The family of a hiker who died after a fall in Red Rock Canyon said their loved one is set to receive an honor by the school he attended.

University of Nevada, Las Vegas will give Ronald Kirk the Honorary Alumnus Award this Saturday.

Kirk, 46, fell several hundred feet at Red Rock Canyon. He was last heard from Jan. 17.

Since that day, family, friends and volunteers formed Red Rock Search and Rescue with the mission to locate Kirk.

He was found Mar. 10

Kirk's family said a memorial will take place after the 5 p.m. award ceremony.

The memorial is set to take place at Pida Plaza on the UNLV Campus.
