LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
At least 39 people were displaced in an apartment fire Thursday night.
Las Vegas Fire and Rescue reported the blaze about 6:28 p.m. in the area of Smoke Ranch Road and Jones Boulevard.
A fire crew in that area noticed heavy smoke and tried locating the source, according to fire officials. It was at that time LVFR dispatched several additional units after a call from the complex.
A total of 102 firefighters were used to fight the blaze that burned for several hours. LVFR reported the fire under control at about 9:30 p.m.
Fire crews said the fire broke out on the second floor of an apartment building, which was evacuated. The fire was big enough to go to two alarms.
It is believed the fire started in the attic. There were no injuries reported in the fire, but fire officials said the building was "extensively damaged." Eight upstairs units were damaged.
Firefighters told FOX5 high winds made the fire difficult to fight and increased the possibility of it spreading to nearby structures.
The American Red Cross said about $10,000 in supplies and resources were spent in the relief process.
