LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
The Clark County District Attorney's office is expected to present a case involving the brutal slayings of a Las Vegas woman and her daughter before a death penalty assessment committee.
The D.A.'s office spoke on the move Wednesday, the same day that the suspect in the case, Bryan Clay, 22, pleaded not guilty to charges connected to the April 15 incident.
No decision has been made as far as the death penalty, and it won't be made until the case is moved to District Court, the D.A.'s office said.
Clay is accused in the sexual assaults and slayings of Ignacia Yadira Martinez and her daughter 10-year-old Karla Martinez in a northwest Las Vegas neighborhood.
Clay made the plea Wednesday through an appointed public defender.
His next preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 15.
Clay was in court Tuesday on a separate child abuse charge related to his pregnant teen girlfriend.
Police connected Clay to the slayings on Robin Street, near Rancho Drive and Washington Avenue, through DNA evidence, clothing, fingerprints and cell phone records.
Clay is also accused of brutally beating Ignacia's husband and Karla's father, Arturo, and sexually assaulting a 50-year-old woman in a separate incident.
Arturo Martinez remains hospitalized at University Medical Center with critical injuries.
Clay was arrested April 27 on an outstanding warrant connected to the child abuse case.
