LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
Cinco de Mayo celebrants may need to take it easy this Saturday.
Las Vegas Metro police said officers will be conducting a sobriety checkpoint in the area of Charleston Boulevard and Arlington Street in the northeast section of the city.
The checkpoint will last from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. the next morning.
Police said particular attention will be focused on drug and alcohol impaired drivers.
The event is being funded by a Joining Forces Grant from the Nevada Department of Public Safety, Office of Traffic Safety.
Metro said the enforcement event is in response to the high number of collisions that have taken place near the intersection.
In the last 90 days, 67 collisions were reported and 12 DUI-related incidents occurred there, police said.
