LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
In an exclusive jailhouse interview with FOX5, a Las Vegas woman charged with killing her elderly neighbor admitted a role in the attack but claimed her daughter was also guilty.
Lourie Rodriguez, 46, and her daughter, Amber Hall, were arrested Sunday and charged with murder, in connection with the death of 73-year-old Jean Greenburg.
According to a police report, Rodriguez and Hall hid one of the murder weapons, a piece of wood, in a baby stroller as they entered Greenburg's apartment on Friday.
The two also brought with them rubber gloves, a change of clothes and Hall's 3-month-old son, according to the report.
Greenburg was beaten and stabbed to death as she sat in her reclining chair, police said.
The police report states that Hall admitted the intent was to kill Greenburg.
But Rodriguez told FOX5 that wasn't the case and says she reacted angrily to something Greenburg said.
"Because of the way the teenagers are the way the parents grow (raise) their kids and I just got angry with that," Rodriguez said. "That she was judging me because I let my daughter spend the night with her boyfriend and people think it's wrong and it's not. I got angry because she kept going on and on and on."
Rodriguez says she has no memory of the alleged attack and wouldn't go into detail. But eventually Rodriguez admitted her role in the crime.
"I remember striking her once," Rodriguez said. "But as far as the others, I don't."
When asked where she struck Greenburg, Rodriguez said the back of the head.
Rodriguez spoke often in circles, contradicting herself. At one point she said she wanted to protect her daughter, but commented that she was also guilty because she "put the stick in the back room."
Rodriguez said the 3-month-old, her grandson, was on the couch and slept through the whole thing.
She spoke in riddles but finally broke down.
"Yes, I do have remorse," Rodriguez said. "I'm not that kind of person. If I kill somebody, I'm not gonna have that kind of remorse. I'm not that type of person. I do have a heart."
According to police, part of Greenburg's coin collection was stolen and pawned for about $2,000.
The pair also tried to use Greenburg's ATM card, police said.
Now the mother and daughter sit in jail facing a slough of charges, including murder.
According to Rodriguez, the 3-month-old and her other daughter, who is under 18, are now with Child Protective Services.
