LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
Police have arrested a second person in connection to a deadly robbery at an east Las Vegas mobile home park.
Las Vegas Metro police said 22-year-old Carlos Vargas was arrested Wednesday, a day after a robbery at the Desert Inn Estates in the 3300 block of Vista Del Monte. That incident left Manuel Torres-Garcia dead.
The arrest was also made after officers caught up with Carlos Humberto Garcia, 30, who was suspected in the deadly hold-up.
According to an arrest report, Vargas, Garcia and Garcia's wife were driving to a drug dealer to acquire methamphetamine. According to Garcia's wife, Carlos expressed intentions to commit a robbery in order to buy the drugs.
Garcia stopped in an area where he saw Torres-Garcia and another man standing. Police said Garcia took a shotgun from the trunk of his sedan while Vargas grabbed a BB-type pistol.
The two approached the victims, leaving Garcia's wife behind, and demanded their wallets. After Vargas took wallets from their pockets, Garcia reportedly opened fire on Torres-Garcia, whom had the shotgun in his face.
In the arrest report, Garcia opened fire after seeing Torres-Garcia reaching for his pocket.
Torres-Garcia collapsed and the two suspects ran back to their vehicle, fleeing from the area.
The victim was transported to Sunrise Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The Clark County Coroner's office said Thursday that Torres-Garcia, 40, died of a gunshot to the neck.
The other robbery victim was able to write down the license plate of the suspect vehicle and reported it to police.
Police were able to arrest Garcia just hours after the shooting, with the other robbery victim positively identifying him in a photo line-up. Detectives also questioned Garcia's wife, who revealed that they removed the license plates from their car and ditched it at the Boulder Station Casino parking garage.
Officers executed search warrants on Garcia's and Vargas' homes and the car. They found a shotgun and a BB-type pistol in the vehicle. In addition, police were able to find clothing and freshly cut hair at one of their apartments. Police said Garcia was freshly shaven and had razor marks when he was arrested.
On Wednesday, police caught up with Vargas, whom Garcia's wife said was in the car with them during the incident, after making contact with him.
Vargas told police about the robbery and the shooting, as well as ditching the vehicle at Boulder Station. Vargas told police he had shaved his head to conceal his identity after he was notified about a search at his home.
Vargas was booked into Clark County Detention Center on a count of murder with a deadly weapon, two counts of robbery with a deadly weapon and two counts of conspiracy to commit robbery.
