LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Members of a Las Vegas Little League will wear patches on their uniforms to honor an 8-year-old boy who died suddenly on a baseball field Tuesday.

Paramedics were unable to revive Spencer Melvin after he collapsed during warm-ups for a Peccole Little League game at Rainbow Park on Oakey Boulevard near Tenaya Way.

Melvin played shortstop for the Minor AA Cardinals.

League officials speculate the boy suffered cardiac arrest, although the coroner's office has not determined the official cause of death.

"He was a vivacious little boy that was never sick and never complained," the boy's father, Robert Melvin, told FOX5.

A spaghetti lunch fundraiser will be held Saturday from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the ballpark. League officials are asking donors to make checks payable to Peccole Little League and note "It's for Spencer."

The league has also ordered patches that can be purchased on its website. All proceeds from the fundraiser and patch sales will go to Melvin's family.

More information on the fundraiser can be found on the league's website.

Members of the community are also leaving their condolences on FOX5's Facebook page.
