Police: NLV man attacked girlfriend with machete

NORTH LAS VEGAS, NV (FOX5) -

A North Las Vegas man is charged with attempted murder with a deadly weapon after an attack on his girlfriend with a machete.

According to North Las Vegas police, 51-year-old Armando Vergara-Martinez attacked his girlfriend, 52-year-old Maria Del Carmen Gomez, in the parking lot of a Green Valley Grocery on E. Craig Road on the evening of March 21.

Police discovered both of them lying on the pavement, covered in blood. The victim's head was split open and both of her hands severed at the wrist. The weapon was found a few feet away.

Police have not released a motive for the attack.
