UPDATE: Grass fire threatened structures in Smith County

Posted: Updated:

UPDATE: Officials tell KLTV that the fire has burned between 3 and 4 acres and is now contained. The fire is just south of County Road 45 and east of Highway 110.

The fire started when a brush pile that was being burned got out of control. Crews have the fire out, but are using plows to dig a plow line around the area.

Two structures were threatened, but were not affected and are no longer in danger.

Officials tell us even though we have had rain lately, it is very dry and very windy today, so they suggest not to burn until we get more rain.

Smith County officials tell KLTV that a grass fire is burning near County Road 45 and is threatening two structures.

Dixie fire crews are on the scene.

The size and containment of the fire is unknown at the time.
