LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
President Barack Obama's re-election campaign tabbed Las Vegas resident and high school counselor Loretta Harper as a National Co-Chair.
Harper, a counselor at Desert Pines High School and a member of the Board of Directors of the Nevada State Educators Association, was announced for the distinction Wednesday.
The campaign said Harper is joining a diverse group of leaders committed to re-electing President Obama. Those in the group include former Obama Chief of Staff and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and actress Eva Longoria.
"I consider it a privilege to be invited to be a national co-chair," Harper said about the invitation. "I really want to carry the torch forward for younger generations and families, that's what this role means to me. One thing that gets to my heart is the DREAM act. Education is dear to my heart. We have to make sure President Obama is re-elected. There is a lot at stake right now."
The group will serve as ambassadors for the president, advise the campaign on key issues and help engage and mobilize voters across the United States.
"The President's National Co-Chairs will be tremendous assets on the ground as we build the biggest grassroots campaign in history," said Jim Messina, Obama for America Campaign Manager. "They each share the President's vision for a future where every American can have a fair shot at success, where hard work pays off and responsibility is rewarded."
